Travertine Restoration in Arizona

Travertine cleaning, honing, polishing and sealing for floors, showers, countertops, patios and pool decks. Diego Rivera leads restoration across Scottsdale and the Valley.

Why Is Travertine Restoration Important?

Travertine is one of the most common natural stones in Arizona homes, and one of the easiest to wear down. It is a soft, porous stone with natural holes. Traffic dulls it, grit scratches it, acidic cleaners etch it, and the factory fill in the holes can loosen over time. Restoration deals with each of those problems instead of covering them up.

What Professional Travertine Restoration Changes

  • Deep cleaning: Stone cleaning and stripping lifts soil out of the pores and grout lines and removes old coatings.
  • Hole filling: Open holes and loose fill are refilled so the surface is even and easier to keep clean.
  • Flat tiles: Where tiles sit uneven, lippage removal grinds them flat.
  • Etch and scratch removal: Stone honing removes etching and scratches from the surface.
  • The finish you choose: Stone polishing sets the finish, from a soft matte to a higher shine.
  • Protection: Travertine sealing protects the result and slows staining.

What Travertine Restoration Does Not Fix

Restoration works on the surface of the stone. It does not fix cracked tiles from slab movement, missing tiles, or water problems under the stone. Those need repair or replacement first, and we will tell you so at the estimate.

How Our Travertine Restoration Process Works

  1. On-site assessment and test area. We look at the stone and the damage and test a small area first.
  2. Clean and strip old coatings.
  3. Grind if tiles are uneven.
  4. Hone. This removes etching and scratches.
  5. Polish to the agreed finish.
  6. Seal.
  7. Walkthrough and care instructions.

What Do Property Owners Ask About Travertine Restoration?

How do I know if my travertine needs restoration or just cleaning?

If the floor looks better wet than dry, or dull lanes show where people walk, cleaning alone will not bring it back. Those are signs of surface wear that honing and polishing correct.

Can dull or etched travertine be polished again?

Yes. Honing removes the worn layer and polishing sets the finish, from a soft matte to a higher shine.

Does travertine need to be sealed?

Yes. Travertine is porous. A penetrating sealer slows staining and makes cleaning easier, but it does not stop acid etching.

How should I clean travertine between visits?

Use a pH neutral stone cleaner and a soft mop. Avoid vinegar, bleach and acidic bathroom cleaners, which etch the surface.

How much does travertine restoration cost?

It depends on the size of the area and the condition of the stone. We quote after seeing it, and estimates are free.
